Five local non-governmental media organizations and local media outlets Albasat TV (Nisporeni), AO Piligrim-Demo/Nokta.md (Comrat), AO Informedia/Studio-L (Causeni), AO Vocea Nordului/Nordinfo.md (Balti), and BAS TV (Basarabeasca) received support for implementing information projects on social cohesion and the promotion of human and minority rights between March and August 2025.
The information projects were implemented as part of the TRIMEDIA – Trustworthy Reporting, Impactful Media, Engaged Communities grant program, jointly implemented by DW Akademie and the Association of Independent Press (API), funded by the European Union and cofunded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Social cohesion and community dialogue were among the topics covered by Studio-L, Bas TV, and Nokta.md. Featuring reports and human interest stories from the districts of Causeni and Stefan Voda, TV Studio-L promoted positive examples of social cohesion and community interaction. Renata Lupacescu, journalist, Studio-L, Causeni, mentioned: "Our reports helped create spaces for interaction between different groups of people: persons with special needs, disadvantaged people, members of local communities, and businesses. These activities have stimulated dialogue, collaboration, and mutual trust among participants, contributing to the development of a sense of belonging to the community and strengthening social relationships."
Basarabeasca colleagues expanded on the theme of social cohesion by encouraging dialogue between young people and senior citizens, bringing them together in teams to address topics of interest to the community in various video materials. Thus, Bas TV's activities contributed to closer interaction between generations through open dialogue and joint creation. Liudmila Topal, director of Bas TV, noted that the materials produced within the project contributed to better informing citizens about migration, human rights, respect for minorities, and social inclusion. These promoted positive examples of interaction and respect for people across different ages and ethnicities.
The project implemented by Nokta.md dedicated to social cohesion strengthened trust and dialogue in the Gagauz community, creating a space for open discussions on sensitive topics. Maria Sirkeli, project coordinator at Nokta.md, said: "Through interviews, explanatory materials, and vox pops, the project contributed to bringing local communities, activists, and journalists closer together, making Gagauzia more visible in the national media."
The media outlets Albasat TV and Nordinfo.md produced several broadcasts and documentaries addressing human rights and social inclusion. The Albasat TV team prepared and aired a series of broadcasts and debates discussing discrimination and the rights of persons with disabilities and the elderly. Tatiana Pantilei, journalist at Albasat TV, noted that "the debates and programs ensured access to relevant information for citizens in rural areas and less informed groups, and stimulated critical thinking and dialogue in the community, including among young people."
The five video stories produced by Nordinfo.md informed and raised awareness among the local community about the inclusion of people with disabilities and combating discrimination and stereotypes about ethnic minorities. Gheorghe Dolinta, journalist, Nordinfo.md, said: "The stories we have created convey powerful inspirational messages about overcoming prejudice and taking civic responsibility, serving as positive examples for the community."
Beneficiary organizations were selected following a complex administrative and technical evaluation process in accordance with the Applicant's Guide. The TRIMEDIA – Trustworthy Journalism, Impactful Media, Engaged Communities Project is jointly implemented by API and DW Akademie and aims to strengthen media outlets and media consumers to produce quality and trustworthy information and thus contribute to the resilience of communities to disinformation.
The grant program was part of the TRIMEDIA – Trustworthy Journalism, Impactful Media, Engaged Communities Project, jointly implemented by DW Akademie and the Association of Independent Press, supported by the European Union and co-funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
